Partially Louis XVI period white Carrara marble fireplace, with the gilded bronzes being later additions. The lintel is sculpted at its center with a plaque depicting a scene named “The Love Merchant” after Clodion’s model exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Nancy. On each side, there are rosettes within foliage scrolls set with bronze pearls. At the heads, there are sculpted masks. The jambs feature scrolls, including a finely carved and gilded acanthus leaf. The bottom of the jambs is highlighted by a frame of pearls.
